The steps we are discussing is for Amazon Echo (2nd Generation), so if you are using this particular model, then the following steps will work for you.
Step 1: Download the Alexa app and sign in
Alexa app is free and is available for Android as well as iOS devices. With this app on your device, you can easily manage your music, shopping lists, alarms and more. The app is also available for Fire OS.
To download ‘Alexa’ app, you need to go to the respective app store of your device and search for ‘Alexa app’. Once found, you can install the app.
You can also visit Alexa.amazon.com from your internet browser, which could be MS Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Google Chrome or Internet Explorer on your Wi-Fi enabled computer.
Step 2: Turn on Amazon Echo (2nd Generation)
Start with plugging the power adapter into the device and then, into the power outlet. As you do that, you will see a light ring on Amazon Echo turning blue and then, orange. As it turns orange, it means, Alexa is greeting you.
Step 3: Connect Amazon To a Wi-Fi network
- Open ‘Alexa app’ and then, go to ‘Menu’ followed by selecting ‘Alexa Devices’.
- Select your device.
- Select the ‘Change’ option that is given right next to the Wi-Fi network. In case you are adding a new device to your account, then you will have to choose ‘Add Alexa Device’ instead of ‘Change’.
- On your Amazon Echo, press and hold the ‘Action’ button until you see the light ring changes from blue to orange. Your smartphone will connect to Amazon Echo and then, you are going to see a list of available Wi-Fi networks in the app.
- Select your Wi-Fi network, and enter the password for that network. If you are not able to find your Wi-Fi network, then scroll down and select ‘Add a network’ option or rescan.
Step 3: Talk to Alexa
Once your Amazon Echo is connected to the Wi-Fi network, it’s time to use the device, as Alexa Amazon setup is complete. You can start by saying the ‘Wake Word’, which happens to be ‘Alexa’. But, if you want, you can change the wake word. To manage wake word in Alexa app, you need to go to ‘Alexa Devices’ followed by selecting your device and then, selecting the ‘Wake Word’. You can also say ‘Change the wake word’.
Step 5: Connect the Amazon Echo to an external speaker
Although it is not a mandatory thing to do, if you have an external speaker, and are looking to enjoy your music loud, then you can connect your Amazon Echo to that external speaker with an audio cable or via Bluetooth.
